Small girls - Big hearts

Meet Jenna and Kiera. They have been pledging all birthday money to spinal cord research. I remember a birthday at their age being something wonderfully big and exciting. To give a big piece of that away...well, it’s inspiring. Their inspirational story is being told in an upcoming magazine published by the University of Calgary and I was fortunate enough to be the one they chose for the photography. It has been a pleasure to meet and work with you Robert, Lisa and especially you Kiera and you Jenna.

Okanagan Life Magazine – Jan/Feb 2009

The January/February issue of Okanagan Life Magazine is now available. I was privileged to be involved in three stories for this issue. First, I met with some of the wonderful Kelowna hospice volunteers, providing the images for “Death is a Beautiful Life” – a touching piece written by Ross Freake.

Freestone Spirit Photography also provided images for “Green with Inspiration”, a story of vision, commitment and love of a wonderful Okanagan couple, Colleen and Darrell Bachman. (Kickspike Website)

Thirdly, we began what I hope to be a regular column called “One Day”. One day, one place, one experience – all in the spirit of sharing.

Thank you everyone!

Summer issue of Okanagan Life Magazine

I met and photographed two wonderful people yesterday. Jenine Stickler owns and operates Lamps-a-Lot in Westbank. They take lamps that are destined to dust collection or worse and turn them into funky little treasures. Carol Jackson saves books from being destroyed and offers them for free from her garage. Reuse, wonderful. Thank you Jenine. Thank you Carol.

horsing around

While in Vancouver over the past few days one of the things that I worked on was developing images for a project on horse culture. I want to focus on the intimate moments, the scenes that we, as outsiders, rarely glimpse. Justine, a close friend of Sarah and I, volunteered some of her time to work with me. Justine is a professional rider and trainer, the most perfect subject that I could ask for. Thank you Justine!

Okanagan Life Magazine – June Issue

This project was a great bit of fun. The upcoming issue is all about big ideas and my job was to illustrate a number of these ideas.
A few of the ideas needed now (green roofs, cooperation, a superhero, the need for more sleep, rapid transit) + a couple of great kids (Adrian and Talia) = creative delight!

Thanks guys!

Rainmaker – Barry Lapointe

Barry Lapointe is the President and founder of Kelowna Flightcraft. I did not realize until setting foot on the premises, how big of an operation that they have. “Kelowna Flightcraft owns the largest fleet of aircraft operating in the Canadian Air Freight market” (from: Kelowna Flightcraft Webpage) = many busy people. Thanks Barry, for being a sport and joining me in the rain and drizzle!
